Rio Tinto is a leading international mining group headquartered in the UK. Rio Tinto’s business is in finding, mining and processing mineral resources.
Major products are aluminium, copper, diamonds, energy (coal and uranium), gold, industrial minerals (borax, titanium dioxide, salt) and iron ore.
Simandou is a world-class iron ore exploration and mining project located in Guinea’s Guinée Forestière and Haute Guinée regions. Rio Tinto has a 95 per cent interest in the project and the International Finance Corporation has five per cent. The project is in the final stages of feasibility studies. A decision on mine development is expected in 2010 when studies will have determined optimum levels of output, design parameters and construction costs. Production is anticipated to begin in 2013 with potential for future expansions. There is an important focus on the development of a positive health and safety culture on the project both in its current state and in its preparation for it future development.
The Role:
The primary purpose of the maintenance supervisor is to supervise the maintenance team functions as they carry out their day to day, scheduled and unscheduled, maintenance tasks. Responsibility is to ensure the needs of Canga East and up country operations, in terms of maintenance requirements, are met effectively and safely.
As the maintenance supervisor he/she shall be responsible for the safe maintaining of basic and advanced camp function. These camp functions include critical requirements such as power generation, water treatment, and waste water treatment.
To be successful in this role, you will ideally hold the following attributes:
Qualification and work experience:
Degree in mechanical engineering or similar qualification
Experience in operating within remote arduous environments.
Experience working within Africa and a solid understanding of the relevant work challenges (Preferential)
Technical Competences and skills:
A strong base knowledge of Civil and Mechanical engineering.
An acceptable understanding of electrical engineering
Good project planning & management skills
Strong computer skills with a focus on maintenance programs & scheduling.
Self motivated individual who is able to work on their own without supervision.
Ability to recognize camp infrastructure maintenance needs.
Time management skills
Must have a good understanding of the English language (Spoken & Written)
Preferable to have an acceptable grasp of the French language (Spoken & Written)
